barrier free wayfining
Our barrier‑free wayfinding goes live at Nikolauspflege Stuttgart
We’re proud to announce the go‑live of our barrier‑free wayfinding system at Nikolauspflege in Stuttgart on October 8, 2025. Developed with pupils and staff, the system enables safe, independent navigation across the campus at Am Kräherwald 271. Key elements include tactile findicators and luminance sufficient lettering, high‑contrast pictograms designed for legibility, Braille and raised profiles, and accessible mounting heights throughout. Indoor landmarks, color‑coded zones, and clear route logic reduce cognitive load: Some of these are completely newly developed systems.
The concept aligns with relevant best practices and standards (e.g., DIN 32984 for tactile indicators, DIN 1450 for legibility, and universal design principles). Materials were chosen for durability and low glare; typography, contrast and spacing were carefully tuned for readability. Together with Nikolauspflege’s team, we’ve created guidance that is inclusive by default—so everyone can get from A to B with confidence.
High‑traffic materials, replaceable graphic layers and modular components make maintenance simple and cost‑effective. Where feasible, substrates with recycled content and low‑VOC finishes were specified. The result is a calm, coherent guidance system that reduces anxiety, saves staff time and—most importantly—gives pupils more independence. Inclusive design here is not an add‑on; it’s the default.
